Although the practices started in the Far East, people in the United States have seen countless benefits, both physical and mental, from practicing all these different types of yoga.

Yoga is ideal for people of all ages, especially those over 50. Aging causes some of us to lose our sense of balance which can lead to falls and bone fractures. Yoga postures challenge our center of gravity in a controlled, safe setting, and with regular practice we can thwart those dizzy, off-centered sensations. Yoga is a great antidote to sedentary lifestyles by improving circulation, and also bone density at a time when osteoporosis becomes more common. These are just a few of its many health benefits.

Yoga also benefits your endurance, energy and balance, circulatory and respiratory systems, pain tolerance, and core strength. Yoga also has the potential to positively influence your weight, posture and quality of sleep!.

Prenatal Yoga: Prenatal yoga is yoga practice specifically designed for pregnant women who need exercises that are safe for them and their babies. Prenatal yoga also focuses on keeping muscles strong, which aids in posture and helps when delivery time comes. Yoga is an excellent way for expectant mothers to keep muscles toned, which not only makes them feel better during their pregnancy, but also helps them get back into shape faster after the baby is delivered.

Many yoga classes will combine several different styles of yoga to get the benefits of all the different practices, but not all programs use the same combinations. Yoga DVDs and other in-home programs are a great way to try different styles or focus on the style that best suits you. you can be published without charge. Diabetes

A person with diabetes has an inability to process blood glucose because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin.

Certain Yoga poses have recently been recognized to help the function of the internal organs and specifically the pancreas.

Regular practice of yoga can benefit those who suffer from diabetes. Yoga helps reduce the stress hormones secreted in the blood which can help reduce the body’s production of glucogon and therefore improve the bodies insulin production.

2 yoga poses:

The ushtrasana or camel pose, and the dhanurasana or bow pose, have specifically been found to help the function of the pancreas and benefit people with diabetes. However, theses two poses may be challenging at first.

During high endurance activities, the muscles remain active in order to enable them to respond to the next demand presented. The more a muscle contracts the stronger the muscle becomes. Many high-level endurance activities, like skiing or running, make the muscles being used very strong. Unfortunately most endurance activities are one-sided. This means that one side of the body is getting really strong while the opposite side is being neglected.

Yoga is a perfect way to balance the body from the high demands of endurance activity. Yoga focuses specifically on all areas of neuro-muscular activity. This focus begins by analyzing the breathing patterns in a still position. The still position requires the muscular system to be active from all sides and angles of the body. This requires a neurological response of high levels of communication and focus on the muscular system. In this response the mind can create the balance the body needs to strengthen the neglected areas you can be published without charge. You can to republish this article in your website or blog. We've all seen it … the severely disfigured finger joints of the elderly. Just looking at it makes you cringe knowing the kind of pain that those joints are causing. And while all arthritis isn't that severe, even a mild case can cause enough pain to keep you from doing things you love.

So what can be done holistically about the inflammation of joints and the discomfort in the connective tissues that causes mild to severe pain in the joints of so many people?

Since chair yoga generally will use every body part that can move, the entire workout serves to increase circulation as a result of the yoga moves. Many people think only about cardiovascular health but there are other forms of circulation to be concerned with.

Sitting still all day long with minimal exercise just invites disease of all sorts. Diabetics will be able to keep their sugar levels in a more acceptable zone with more physical movement. Chair yoga has routines for all the extremities that diabetics often have issues with – feet, toes, hands, fingers. There is no part of the body left out.

Cylindrical bolsters can be used to lengthen the lower back by placing them perpendicular or parallel to the spine or under the knees.  They are also useful as supports for forward bends.  Cylindrical bolsters are firmer and heavier than rectangular bolsters.

Chair yoga is actually classified as an aerobic exercise. Any exercise that increases the circulatory and respiratory ability or that causes the heart and lungs to work harder to keep up with the need for oxygen is an aerobic exercise. Even yoga from a chair will do that and with this whole body approach, the immune system is also stimulated.

So don't let the fact that you can't easily move around keep you from doing any exercises. The “No pain – no gain” philosophy is going by the wayside anyway so forget about that. Just do some yoga from your chair and get a lot more physical benefits than you think you can

You’ve heard the buzz about yoga and would like to give it a try. However, before you can even touch your toes, your inner-pessimist pipes up: “Yoga is for young people,” or “It’s too expensive,” or “I’m about as flexible as a 2 x 4.” If this sounds familiar, it’s time to quell that inner voice. Yoga is a wonderful, completely accessible activity for virtually everyone regardless of age, current fitness level and financial means.

You’re never too old to practice yoga. Rather than using weights, machines or other cumbersome devices, yoga builds strength, stamina and flexibility by using your own body. Begin at a level at which you’re comfortable and work at your own pace. Eventually, you might want to intensify your practice, but it’s up to you. Yoga is totally non-competitive; timelines and progress charts are not required. A big part of yoga is listening to your own body. If you experience any pain or discomfort, simply pull back.

Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga yoga is also known as “power yoga”, which uses flowing movements to increase strength and stamina. Pushup and lunge-like movements are common in this vigorous and athletic practice.

Bikram Yoga: Bikram yoga refers to yoga done in a hot environment (approximately 105 degrees Fahrenheit), which not only promotes a detoxifying sweat, but also aids in flexibility.

Mental benefits of yoga come from the harmonization of the body and the mind through meditation. Many people use yoga to decrease stress, increase relaxation, gain emotional balance, and improve concentration. Yoga also reduces anxiety attacks, blood pressure, and muscle tension while increasing self-confidence, serotonin levels, and strengthening your immune system.

So, go grab your yoga mat and start on the road to a healthier you! Although there are yoga studios, instructors and classes all over the United States, you can also practice yoga right in your living room. Yoga DVDs, books, and home programs are readily available for those who do not have enough time or flexibility to make it across town for regular classes.
